An exceptional vintage French three-seat settee in the Louis XVI Neoclassical style. The carved, gilded frame presents a sweeping oval medallion back topped by a hand‑carved floral crest of blooming roses. A continuous beaded trim outlines the back and seat rail, which is further accented by a leaf‑and‑dart frieze. Arm supports are carved with acanthus foliage and sweep outward to padded, scrolled armrests. Each corner of the seat rail is punctuated by a carved rosette medallion above elegant fluted, tapering legs.
The frame preserves its original warm gilded patina with minor surface wear and small areas of finish loss. The settee has been newly upholstered in a cream polyester fabric that shows light marks. Structurally the frame is sound. No maker’s marks or labels were found. Sourced in Sydney.
